Hello my friends. Summer has officially arrived, and what better way to beat the heat than have a yummy-licious scoop of America’s favorite summer treat: ice cream!
Every time you mention an ice cream treat to your little ones, don't you see the sparkle of excitement in their eyes? Let's get them and ourselves an indulgent treat of a quick and delicious semi-homemade ice cream with this simple recipe, because there's nothing better than ice cream being served on a hot summer day, right? A container of regular chocolate ice cream is great, but don’t you want more? Our cherry chocolate ice cream recipe with an interesting twist using Black Cherry Preserve is what you will want all summer long.
The chocolate ice cream has a dramatic dark color, creamy texture, and a rich and intense chocolate flavor, and is extremely simple to prepare with very few ingredients. We promise this recipe is going to make it to your list of beloved ice creams too! All you need is some store-bought chocolate ice cream, together with chilled Cherry Jam and cherry brandy. These three ingredients are going to hit all the flavor notes just right! When it comes to ice cream or desserts in general, fruit and fruit jams compliment ice creams so well. This recipe is a classic case of just that!
Whether you love it sweet and firm or soft and gushy, cherry chocolate ice cream is all you need. It's going to be an explosion of flavors in your mouth. This frozen dessert is a celebration of summer’s fresh seasonal fruit - cherries. And Black Cherry Preserve is best-loved by those who love cherries and love experimenting with new desserts. Fun Facts about Cherries
- The California cherry season lasts for only six weeks. From mid-April until June 20th
- The sweet cherries originated in Asia Minor.
- There are 6 cherry varieties: Bing, Brooks, Chelan, Coral, Rainier & Tulare
While preparing the ice cream, be sure to let the ice cream soften in the refrigerator for an hour. We recommend setting a timer. You surely don’t want to let it melt completely. This helps the Cherry Jam and cherry brandy mix easily into the ice cream. The cherry chocolate ice cream is rich in flavor without being too heavy. There's a beautiful balance that these summertime cherry flavors bring to a regular creamy chocolate ice cream. The good thing about having stocked up on Cherry Jam is that you won’t have to be stuck waiting for cherry season to come around again.
So, what are you waiting for? Doesn't this sound appetizing to make you want to embrace your sweet tooth? Get started on this little treat now. The month of July is National Ice Cream month, and National Ice Cream Day falls in July as well. So what better reason do you need to celebrate the love of chocolate and cherries! And don't worry, with ice cream, calories don't count. Everyone deserves to have their favorite treat every now and then!

What an easy way to really amp up some chocolate ice cream to make it super yum! And I love how you add just a touch of brandy too to give it a little kick.
Geoffrey Swetz
Yes Jennifer, the brandy makes a nice addition. Totally up to you how much of a 'touch' you want to give with the brandy - hint, hint.
