Avocado & Black Bean Crostini is the ultimate Mediterranean appetizer or snack that deliciously combines the creaminess of black beans and avocado. It's a terrific snack idea for evenings and a delectably easy appetizer for your parties.
Crostini quite literally means “little toasts” and they are usually garnished with your favorite veggies (sometimes even non-veggies too), as you will see as mentioned in our recipe below. This is a crunchy, toasty baguette with toppings that are flavorsome. If you love indulging a good cheesy treat, then this is it!
This amazing dish is perfect for every season and every occasion. So, you can prepare Avocado & Black Bean Crostini all year-round and still be a hit among your friends and family. This particular recipe is one of my favorite cooking experiments.
Amongst the key ingredients like avocado, Vidalia onions, tomatoes, and black beans there's a secret ingredient. That secret ingredient is this Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This is a Cretan Extra Virgin Olive Oil that is naturally cold extracted out of olives without any extras and additives.
What is a Crostini?
Crostini is also known as mini toasts and there can be many variations to the toppings used on top of these crispy toasts. They are simply small pieces of toasted, sliced bread with your favorite list of toppings. We love experimenting with food, and with Crostini toppings you could do the same. Whether you choose to have a shredded Brussel sprouts mixture, or smoked salmon, or our very own black bean and avocado mixture, the options are endless.
Hellenic Farms also has a variety of especially made toppings in the Spreads Section of our online pantry. But for this recipe, the perfect partners of Greek EVOO, crumbled feta cheese, and a French baguette make these little crostinis a mouth-watering appetizer.
Is there a difference between Crostini and Bruschetta?
Most people get confused between bruschetta and Crostini and they think they are the same. Not true. Bruschetta is usually made of a thick slice of Italian bread which is then grilled to make it crunchy. Whereas, Crostini uses smaller round-shaped bread which is cut into thin slices and is toasted.
If you are a fan of Italian food, you probably have had several versions of Crostini with different toppings. This lightly toasted crunch bread is slathered with olive oil, preferably Greek EVOO for flavor before adding your favorite combinations of toppings.
Some of the easiest topping combinations for Crostini include serving Caesar salad or even lemon feta and crispy cucumber slices. If you are a seafood lover, goat cheese, smoked salmon and red onions might be a great option too. Crostinis are some of the best appetizer options for summer cocktail parties or wholesome flavorful evening snacks.

The toppings and mixtures of black bean and avocado give the food an intense flavor. We hope you enjoy preparing this tasty and crunchy appetizer. We are sure you'll love preparing this quick and easy appetizer, just as much as your friends will love eating them. So, don't forget to add this simple and delicious dish to your party menu.
